Raevin had kitchen duty for his chores today. Lovely. Just lovely... He had to clean the pots.
He looked up as he heard another Weyrling shout and saw him picking up a pot that must have been lost some time ago from amidst what had become a clutter in the more recent developments of a Weyr.
But... what he was shouting about was what was in that pot. A clutch with its mother soon returning and landing nearby. She belonged to... someone nearby... that was certain. They had to let everyone know. "Monerae. Tell the Weyr that there are flitter eggs in the kitchens." The little flitter first informed the nearest dragon who then informed people that there were flitter eggs about to hatch in the kitchens.

They were getting closer and closer it seemed to the day of the hatching. Kikunae couldnt believe it either. He was going to be a rider, he just knew it! The hopeful boy had big plans for himself and the egg he had claimed mentally as his. However, Rikula being the realistic one as always had been keeping busy with an idea of escape if they didn't impress. She kept trying to tell Kikunae that it wasn't safe here, that their Uncle would find them eventually and then what? No, unless they impressed and were duty bound, they would never be safe...so in Kikunae's mind it had to be that their eggs were on those sands.
Naturally, he was coming from the hatching grounds when he heard the rumors. The candidate had been doing chores, and finished with them, he had taken a "short-cut" through the stands. He smirked with his cleverness and put a light skip into his step. Rikula would never admit that she wanted to impress for other reasons besides safety, but he had no such qualms! Kikunae was perfectly find with yelling to the world what he wanted. As soon as his ears heard tell-tale whispers of a flit clutch though, the candidate raced to the kitchens.
A firelizard was like a dragonet! They made those dragonets on the sands, so surely the logic was that if he could impress a flit he could impress a dragonet! Kikunae skidded to a stop in front of the other candidates, giving them a huge smile. Oh, oh, oh! What could they be holding?
Kikunae! Where in Faranth's name did that kid get to?
Rikula sighed and placed a hand against her forehead, shaking it as well. Would Kikunae ever learn that it was best to stick together? She was supposed to be protecting him shardit! She promised her parents. Rikula ignored the voice that sarcastically reminded her that one, Kikunae was old enough to deal with himself, and two she had promised the egg she would look after him too. She didn't need nor want to think about either of those things.
Pulling her hair behind her, Rikula did a quick and messy bun, pinning it there with a pair of wooden sticks she had found in the kitchens while on chore duty. Apparently cleaning up the place had its benefits after all. The girl was still in the kitchens, or around there when Raevin's shout made her jerk up. At first she thought he had said the dragon eggs, but then the girl scolded herself for being so narrow minded. Of course the young man had meant flit eggs! Rikula walked over, sighing in relief when Kikunae showed up.
At least he was here and safe...not that you need to keep worrying about him so much. She kindly told that voice in her head to shut up.
Miniri was going to get herself a flit egg. Partially it was for Midnath who insisted on another "minion." Part of it though was that she herself just wanted a pet. The earth girl needed some form of constant support besides her dragon. Midnath could be fine sometimes, but others....Miniri made a face as she shook the thought off. Thankfully the green was sleeping right now, otherwise it'd be a lot worse. Arriving finally, Miniri noticed some candidates. She smiled at them politely and did her best to look like just another weyrgirl. She didn't need to be treated special because she was a rider and they weren't.
Firsk was asleep, and honestly so was Firwen. However, it wasn't uncommon for the auburn haired handler to get nightmares. This happened to be one of those days. Jerking awake, Firwen shook herhead to clear it of the frightening images before untangling her limbs from the blankets. The cold flor was wonderful though and centering. She yawned a bit, glancing at the cavern entrance where her green was sleeping. The wher's bright hide could barely be seen in the darkness, but it was there.
She just moved from there, not side where her feet were taking her. As long as there were few people sne was fine...yet here she was at a flit hatching. As much as her heart yearned for one, the handler dreaded the growing crowd. Couldn't they all just go away or die of something?!?

The first egg to hatch was the Today's Envy egg. It shook and cracked and soon fell to pieces to reveal... Well, most were probably expecting a bronze... but it wasn't. It was green. Yes. Green. But she wasn't any regular green. She was HUGE. Her wingspan was large, her lithe body was well muscled and... built like a queens! Oh my! She cheeped and looked shyly at the big ones. Which one would be hers...? She crooned again. Oh... she was hungry.
Raevin looked at those already gathered and reached for some nearby meet. It was fish, not completely cooked yet, but still... He put it into the nearest pot and started handing it out. The rest of the eggs were shaking and starting to crack as well. Oh boy. This was happening so fast!

It was an odd thing to have a dragon sometimes, Miniri thought this as she watched the eggs hatch. Midnath was inside her mind completely right now, looking into what Hers was seeing. As the giant green hatched and looked around, the dragoness giggled and pulled Miniri forward mentally. Her, she's a good one Miniri. Go to her.
The weyrling shook her head, reminding her green firmly that the firelizard should choose Hers, not the other way around. Midnath snorted at this, but otherwise stayed silent. Looking at the flit though, Miniri did hope that she'd get one out of this clutch. She could use a friend...Midnath could be just so, so difficult sometimes.
Looking around, the weyrling wondered if Amaelia would show up too. She probably would feel the same I do with how Tyranith is. Sometimes you just wanted something that would love you and listen to you and not be so troublesome. This little one certainly seemed like that...she hoped.

The little green chirped again, looking at them all. That one wasn't as scary... The others were so big and frightening and seemed so greedy to her! She cried out and flung herself at Miniri, clinging to her shirt, and crooning before crying piteously for food. Please feed this little green now. ..::Envy Green::.. Bonded To: Miniri Type: flitter Age: Hatchling Color: Green (Rank Breaker Gene. She ranks as a Gold) Gender: Female Hex Codes: 005826, c4df9b, and 00ff00 Size in Feet/Inches: three and a half feet at full growth
Personality:Shy, sweet, loving, kind, dependent, knows she is ranked as a queen but doesn't understand. She rather be a regular green. Will likely not like Midnath much. Very protective of Miniri, becomes jealous easily The next egg to hatch was the smallest of the clutch. The Tomorrow's Sorrow broke to reveal a... yellow colored flitter? Yes... Most definitely yellow. Amaelia arrived and stood in the back shortly after this egg hatched, watching. Though she did not plan to attach a flitter. As much as she wanted one... Tyranith was enough of a pain to deal with these days. She could hear her gold snort. She wasn't THAT much trouble!

Miniri jerked back as the green flared her wings and latched onto her shirt. Mine, Mine! The green's mind entered hers gently, yet firmly. It was something she was not quite used to yet, these powers of hers. Yes the green thought that her enhanced strength of mind from being similar to a gold were actually super powers, that she didn't even want. Or that's sort of what Miniri could make out of the green's feelings. Hey, hey, you?!? The blonde looked down at the green who was wagging her tail side to side. Yeah, you! I'm hungry.
The feelings, that the weyrling's mind attempted to make into more sensible phrases spoke of hunger then? Well, that could be arranged. "Come on sweetheart, let's go get something to eat." Miniri took a bowl of food from Raevin and started handing pieces of it to the green who nibbled daintily. Everything was good now. She had Hers to protect her, and she'd protect Hers in return. Nothing could ruin this. The flit thought too soon. Miniri, you should take her out here so I can meet her. Do it now girl! Midnath's command of Hers made the green hiss, flaring her wings as her eyes spun a quick reddish orange.
"Easy there. Don't worry, I'll stay in here with you right now love." No you will not, you impudent girl you listen to me right now! Miniri shook her head, breaking as much contact with her dragoness as she possibly could. Midnath huffed. Well, Hers wasn't in her domain right now anyway. Her domain being anywhere within a ten foot radius of her. It was much easier to make Miniri do what Midnath wanted when the weyrling could see the green towering over her.
Turning to the flit, Miniri smiled warmly and rubbed its neck until the green started to relax and droop her wings. "I have to think of what to name you....what about Caera?" She pronounced it with a hard "k" like sound though instead of the soft "s". The flit chirped in agreement. She could handle that.
Rikula watched as the flits began to hatch. First the giant of a green, then a yellow that was tiny. Her eyes swiveled to the side though as her brother moved forward slightly. Kid's going to get in trouble one of these days. Her mind snapped at her to do something about it, and Rikula darted her hand out to grab Kikunae's sleeve. "Stay back here." The words were a soft hiss in his ear.
Instead of listening though, Kikunae looked back at her and shook her hand off. Narrowing his eyes and performing a flawless imitation of what she looked like when she was angry, Kikunae stalked off and slid behind the crowd to the other side of the kitchens. Who did his sister think she was? She wasn't his mother! Crossing his arms with a loud huff, Kikunae glared at her from across the room. At least the look of priceless inability to speak is nice. Yet, there was a small part of him that was angry at himself too. Perhaps he should have stayed with her...she was only trying to protect him. I don't need protecting though! The voice in his head sounded like a whiny child however.
A boy was touching her! A boy was sharding touching her!
Firwen moved away as quickly, but softly as possible once the small boy moved over to where she was. He had come from the other side of the room, and was staring at something. Firwen didn't care to find out though. No, this was fine...if she could just take a few more steps back. The auburn haired handler did just that, grimacing when she accidentally bumped into a cook. She shivered at the touch, and side-stepped away, ending up somehow at the front of the group more than she had ever meant to.
Now everyone can see me! She wanted to curl up into a little ball, or run back to her weyr with Firsk. Oh bother.

Behind the little yellow how sat at the edge of the pot was another egg that cracked slowly at first, but shattered at the end. The Dawn's Mourning hatched out into a brilliant green, brightly colored with deep green spots. It shook itself. It was tiny, but still larger than the little yelllow. The yellow colored flitter tilted his head at the big things. They were interesting. Fascinating even. There was one thing, though, that was more fascinating. She was not like the others to him. He liked this thing. She was beautiful and big and better than the others. He wanted to see her up close. He wanted her to love him. He gave a trill and darted towards Firwen, landing in front of her, chittering excitedly. Mama! Mama! Look! Flitt! I found you Mama! Those were the images and emotions he seemed to shout at Firwen. Food! Food! Hungry! Feed baby! Feed baby! The little yellow male begged of his "mama" he needed food and he needed it yesterday. ..::Tomorrow's Sorrow Yellow::.. Bonded To: Firwen Type: Flitter Age: Hatchling Color: Yellow Gender: Male Hex Codes: eaea01, f9e97d, ffffc0, and ded301 Size in Feet/Inches: 0' 10"
Personality:Hyper, exciteable, likes to shout emotions and pictures at His and at Firsk. highly demanding, but very very loving. Thinks Firwen is his momma and that Firsk is his sister. Already this hatching was becoming very interesting. There was an extra large green (for all she knew), a tiny yellow flitt who had, apparently, chosen to bond to a wher... and... Still more eggs to hatch, which were all starting to shake more and more with every passing minute.

Firwen looked down at the flit as it started to cheep inside her head and out. "Shoo...go on...get." The yellow male keened unhappily. Mamma, Mamma! Didn't Mamma want him? Curling his little tail around her leg and curling on her foot, the baby chirped again. Looking around awkwardly, Firwen tried to shake the flit off, but it only clung to her tighter. Oh, it was making such a scene! Her heart was fluttering wildly though. She had wanted one of these for so long, and now here he was!
Finally giving in and bending over to scoop the little yellow into the crook of her arm, Firwen darted to the back of the crowd before anyone could ask questions. She didn't want to be cornered about her odd colored flit. Mamma think him odd? "No sweetheart....you're perfect." Though he was a bit strange. Mamma not know it same?!? "Uh....you're just the way your supposed to be little one." The yellow chirped, nodding his head. Mamma give him name? Firwen paused mid-stride as she went to get a bowl of food for the flit.
"Uhh...how about Yazhi?" She asked the yellow tentatively before grabbing a bowl and giving him a piece of meat. Mamma feed, yummy, yummy! The yellow, newly named Yazhi, wrapped his tail around her wrist and layed his head against the back of her hand.

Syre trudged down to the Bowl, trying to draw out the time it took to actually get to the herdbeast pens for as long as possible. Candidate chores were more structured than anything he had done before, and his attendence was actually required and documented at these things. But he just had to sign the sheet, and even if he showed up halfway through, no one noticed because there was no time associated with his signature.
Just as he was crossing the threshold of the corridors to the open Bowl, a dragon's mindvoice resonated in his head. He turned around the way he came and headed back down to the kitchens, a route he knew very well. Firelizards were going to hatch, and shardit, he was going to be there.
Syre spotted the small crowd of people and headed there, gently pushing his way through the people so he had a clear sight of the eggs. They were shaking slowly, and there were already two flits hatched. A green, and something that looked like a gold, but without the sheen he usually associated with queens. A cursory glace proved that the green was much larger than he would have expected, but then again, he didn't really know what to expect.

Of course Oswin had to attend the flitt hatching, if only out of curiosity. He had never seen a flitt hatching before, and now he was being presented with the chance to not only observe, but Impress if he was lucky enough. He wasn't dead set on getting a flitt of his own, but it would be an interesting experience if he did. It would probably be fun to train it, and flitts could be useful if they were well behaved.
When he arrived, a few of the eggs had already hatched. He looked over the remaining ones. There was an egg that had an obvious gold sheen, as well as a big black one that looked similar to one of the dragon eggs. Maybe that was just a coincidence, though.
The two baby flitts were a large green and a tiny gold. Oswin had never seen anything like it. He moved closer to the woman holding what he thought was a miniature gold. "Excuse me, but what kind of flitt do you have there? Is it some kind of mutation Gold?" he asked her curiously.

With a final shudder, the Tomorrow's Promise egg revealed... a rather oddly colored gold that ranged in color from pale gold, to burnt gold, to orange gold, to a lemon colored gold... All shimmering, but all different, as if... from the get go, she could not pick a hide color. She stepped out, shaking those burnt gold wings with their spots and... squeaked. WHAT! She wasn't beautiful like she had thought she would be. She looked at the markings somewhat dismayed and hissed at them. NO! NO! NO! This could not be! She hissed and shook her head and flailed around. NO! She wasn't beautiful!? What was she? They knew she was gold, oh that was obvious enough... But... but she wasn't a BEAUTIFUL gold. OH! How she despised it! This loathsome thing! She was worthless compared to other golds! That stupid green-queen thing was more beautiful than she! OH! she would have to fix that. BUT FIRST! She needed to bond. It took her little time to fix her eyes on Syre and fling herself that way... straight onto his head, where she perched. You will feed me now Mine! You will take care of me! NO! You will WORSHIP me! NOW FOOD! ..::Tomorrow's Promise Gold::.. Personality:Irritable, angry, perfectionist, demanding, controlling, secretly loving (won't let anyone but HERS see it), wants to be beautiful, but doesn't think she is. Is confident, but not in her looks. Tends to over compensate While the gold chittered and chattered, no one seemed to notice as two more eggs revealed their hatchlings. One was large, with black and gray markings while the other was a very pale Bronze. These eggs were the Last Night's Fear and the Tomorrow's Cloud. The brothers looked at each other curiously, cheeping. They liked each other. They would stay together. But... they had to find one suitable for both of them. And there he was. He would take care of them. That boy right. There. Wit ha little chittering, both the Bronze and black colored flits flung themselves across the room at Oswin. MINE! OURS! FEED US NOW! The bronze was light and highly metallic while the black was metallic... but very dark with a certain gleam to his hide. ..::Last Night's Fear Grayscale::.. Bonded To: Oswin Type: Flitter Age: Hatchling Color: Grayscale (King) Gender: Male Hex Codes: 000000, cccccc, and ffffff Size In Feet/Inches: 4'9"
Personality:A real leader. He will be the one to take charge. He is very protective and will look after his family with an eagle eye. Very royal. Hates making a fool of himself. Always looks after his little brother (Bronze and, once Oswin Impresses, his dragon) ..::Tomorrow's Cloud Bronze::.. He is more in the Brown range)

Aria sighed as she walked through the Weyr. She didn't usually leave the Wherhold, but Ariask had told her to go, and see if she could get a firelizard egg. The young handler had no idea how the gold wher found out about the firelizard clutch, but there was no way she could deny her wher. This was the first time Ariask had let her out of her site in quite a long time, and wondered what was so special about this day. That's what was going through her mind when she finally arrived in the kitchens of Northern Aurora Weyr. She wasn't sure what she had been expecting to see, but she was almost positive this wasn't it.
Aria took a deep breath, and quickly approached the person who seemed to be in charge of the firelizard clutch. My name is Aria, my wher was wondering if we could get one of your firelizard eggs please? Her voiced sounded so much more confidant that she felt, and why had she told him her name? She really did need to have her head examined for ever leaving the Wherhold. You had better be happy about this Ariask. She felt like snorting at the feelings she received in response from her wher. There were times she wished she could just shut off the link between the two of them. Now was one of those times.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
K'lin laughed as he watched his blue dragon playing around in the sky above the Weyr. There was just something about how easily Bearith twisted and turned that amused the weyrling master. Mine, there is a firelizard clutch hatching in the kitchens. You should go check it out. Bearith back winged quickly as he landed next to his rider. It was no secret that the blue dragon liked hatchlings, and firelizard hatchlings were no exception. I take it you want me to go get you one? K'lin knew that if he did receive an egg, it would be more for Bearith's enjoyment than his own.
K'lin didn't wait for his dragon's answer. Instead he quickly headed for the kitchens, hoping there would still be eggs left over. It didn't take him long to get there, which surprised the weyrling master. Usually he didn't hurry for anything but his dragon. There it was! There was the answer to his question. He was in a hurry because his dragon had wanted him to go and get an egg if at all possible. Thank you Mine. Bearith's sweet voice made the man smile, though he did send a silent scoff at the male. You better be happy! Even though his mental thought might have sounded angry, he was smiling, and quite glad he was going to get something to help him clean the blue dragon.
Greetings, I hope you don't mind but I would like one of your eggs please. K'lin smiled happily as he greeted the young man that he thought was in charge of the eggs. He looked around him, and wondered just how many of these people were here for an egg. You had better home he still has one you over-grown wherry! He closed his eyes and silently glared at the mental picture of his dragon who was currently laughing loudly at his rider. To be completely honest, Bearith was quite amused by his rider, and wondered what he would do if an egg hatched and demanded something from him.
(((OOC: Could Aria get the medium sized egg and K'lin the large one please? Oh and if need be either one of them could take another egg.)))
Syre looked on as the eggs continued to hatch, starting with the largest egg of the clutch, the gold one. He leaned forward almost imperceptibly, curious about the odd coloring, but quickly leaned back as the little flit started to flail around. Was something wrong with her? Syre didn't have time to figure it out before the gold launched herself toward him. It was a surprising piece of unplanned choreography, the way he ducked just as the gold clawed at his head, catching his hair and perching on his head.
Syre reached a hand up and pet her damp hide, reassuring the little one that he wasn't going to do anything to hurt her. Unconciously, he reached for the bowl of meat and held it up to where he guessed the flit's head was. Apparently he had guessed about right, since the scrap of fish was torn out of his hand.
Once the gold's mental chattering resumed with demands for more food, Syre gently picked her off his head and placed her on his shoulder securely. "There. Stay there, and I'll feed you as much as you want, gorgeous," he said, tacking on the affectionate term as a sort of nervous tick. The gold's temper flared up a little, convinced Syre was lying to her, and bit his ear.
"Hey! Not food! I am not food!" he squeaked, batting at the gold. "You are pretty, I swear! You've got spots. I wish I had spots." Syre fed the gold another bit of meat. "You need a name, too, I guess. I'm not good with names. Uh... Goldie?" Another bite to his ear, and distinct disapproval from the still-angry gold. "Gorgeous. That's what I'll name you! Hey, wait, don't bite me!" Syre lifted the newly-named Gorgeous from his shoulder and held the squirming firelizard in front of him, shaking a finger at her.
"Oh... um sure..." He looked at the woman who asked him if she could have an egg. "Oh! um! Sure!" He blinked. This wasn't his clutch to give away or keep. They had just found it while they were cleaning the kitchens!
And again! This time it was the weyrlingmaster! This man he recognized in a heart beat. "Certainly sir! But... they aren't mine... exactly. We just found them..."
It was the That Which We Left Behind Egg that started to hatch next, soon followed by the Yesterday's Worry Egg.
The first was a bronze. A rather large one at that. His hide was a deep green-bronze with markings which looked more orange and places which looked almost brown bronze in color.
The other... hatched into a brown a rich brown with almost a copper color with a pale brown colored markings and swirls all across his body. He gave a cheap and sat there on the lip of the pot, looking at the gathered creatures. They were so interesting.
It gave a cheep and looked up at the man who was there in front of him. That was all he needed. He took off and clung to K'lin's shoulder, crooning softly before asking for food with feelings of hunger.
Personality: Stable, kind, and wise beyond his years, this flitter isn't spastic or hard to control. He is a king in every sense of the word. He will be overly protective of both K'lin and Bearith without any doubt.
Now it was the brown's turn. He took a step forward and took off, flying above the heads of those gathered before landing on Aria's head and chirped, settling himself there. He was more than ready to be fed. He sent feelings of hunger insistently at her. Now then. She was going to feed him now and she was going to take care of him. That was that.
Aria smiled sweetly at the young man when he spoke to her, he seemed a little nervous. She hadn't had any time at all to say anything else before two more eggs started to hatch. The first one was a pretty bronze, and she liked the way his markings looked. Then a very rich colored brown. She wondered if she could pick one, but then something happened that seemed to make up her mind for her. She took a step back and watched, with wide eyes, as the bronze seemed to pick which person was going to be It's before anyone could decide for him. Which really surprised the young Alpha Handler. So, instead of taking a higher ranking male, it seemed Aria was either going to have to take the brown, or one of the unhatched eggs. Though, once again it seemed as though her mind had been made up for her. She watched as the brown stepped forward, and took off into the air. She watched curiously as the brown male circled around everyone's head before making up his mind on who it wanted to be bonded with. She gave a surprised gasp when the brown firelizard landed on her head, and chirped. He seemed to have made himself quite comfortable before insisting on her feeding him. I guess neither of us have a choice huh? She giggled as she spoke, and then quickly started feeding the demanding firelizard. It didn't take her long to figure out how to get him off her head. She lured him down, onto her shoulder with a piece of food which made it a lot more comfortable to feed him. Are you happy now Ariask? She sent the question to her golden bonded and all she got in return was a feeling of quiet acceptance. That really didn't surprise her You are such a cutie, I think I'll call you cocopuffs because you remind me of rich coco. She knew that wasn't really a manly name, but it made her smile, and he didn't seem to mind the name all that much either. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ K'lin laughed at the young man's reaction to the woman who he found out later was the Alpha Handler, and his own questions. No need to call me sir. Just call me K'lin, and if you found them, then by all means they are yours since you are the one who's looking after them. He smiled kindly and chuckled softly as he spoke. He gently reached out to pat the kid on the shoulder, when two of the eggs started to hatch. He looked at them with wide, curious eyes. The first one to hatch was a large bronze who, to him, seemed very kingly. But that was just his impression, so he didn't say anything about it. K'lin then noticed that a brown had hatched as well. He smiled thoughtfully as he watched the two of them. Both of them seemed to know exactly what, and who, they wanted. That was something K'lin had thought only dragons knew, and that you had to feed a firelizard before it would impress to a person. But that doesn't seem to be the case with these firelizards. Oh well, nothing he could do about it and there was no point in trying to find out about it either. He was drawn out of his thoughts when he heard a cheeping sound, which drew his attention to the large bronze. K'lin's eyes widened when the firelizard took off, and started to cling to his shoulder. He smiled softly and started to feed the large male when he felt the feelings of hunger that seemed to be radiating from the young creature. Alright mister, we gotta get you all fed and then I gotta think of a name don't I? He gently pulled the firelizard from his shoulder, and set him down near the pot. He started to feed him as he pondered on what to call the young hatchling. He bit his lip as he tried his hardest to concentrate on finding a name for his new companion. Then a sudden idea hit the man. I think I'll call you Cathal. After all, you seem to be a very strong, yet smart little guy. K'lin smiled and chuckled when he saw the reaction of his newly named firelizard. Cathal crooned and fluttered his wings at the sound of his name. Both of them seemed to be quite happy about the bronze's new name. I like it mine. Bearith had seen what had been going on through his rider's eye, and was quite pleased with the little firelizard's choice. Maybe this will help keep the Weyrling Master from getting into too much trouble while playing his pranks. (((OOC: Also I would like Aria to get a low ranking female if at all possible. And if need be K'lin could also get another one )))
