Syre couldn't believe his eyes. A mauling, by dragonets, on the Sands? Not only was there red, human blood seeping into the hot sand, there was the green he had come to expect from dragons. Syre stayed riveted to the ground, unwilling or unable to move; even he couldn't tell the difference. The bravery of the other Candidates, especially the one who had yelled at the green, was commendable, but not something he thought he could do.
He noticed that The One Who Got Away egg had hatched, although a bit belatedly, and he couldn't quite identify which dragon had come from the egg. Syre guessed the blue, but he couldn't put his finger on it, so he didn't race toward any particular dragon. His patience was rewarded, it seemed, because the very blue he suspected to be His came right for him and sat in front of him. Well, S'vekMine. Seems you Golliath took just a bit too long to get here. You are quite Impressive, though. Hmm...
Syre - S'vek, now, he'd have to get used to that - looked down to the gorgeous blue at his feet. He stretched a hand down and stroked Golliath's eye ridges, in the process clapping his jaw shut from its previous wide-open position. "You're mine?" he whispered. And I'm yours. Now, there is the question of food. I'm quite hungry, Golliath informed him in the same calm tone he had just used.
The blue nudged S'vek's leg, prompting the new weyrling to head off to the food, following Golliath's lead.

Kalesa couldn't honestly say she was disgusted or even particularly stunned that there was blood on the sand. She'd seen it before, and nothing really disgusted her anymore. She did come from Beastcraft, and if that wasn't the bloodiest craft there was, Kalesa didn't know what was. She stayed where she was, even through the fight between dragons. That was something that did, in fact, surprise her; dragons were supposed to be peaceful, and mauling a green to the point of between was not particularly peaceful.
The hatching of the strange gray dragons was the most surprising thing that Kalesa had seen, definitely in the past year, probably in her life. In her memory, there had never been a dragon that strayed from gold, bronze, brown, blue, or green, and while she took it better than the Weyrleader, she couldn't restrain a gasp and the widening of her own eyes. Still, she had to keep up an unbreakable image, and she didn't burst out with any words like some of the girls around her did.
Her eyes were kept on the All's Well That Ends Well egg, even to the exclusion of the gold egg next to it. Kalesa knew her future; she had learned it on the day of the Touching, from the dragonet himself. Her hopes were rewarded when the egg split open to reveal a black dragonet, huge even when looked at next to the gold who broke free moments later.
Kalesa held her breath as the black male walked straight up to her and bespoke her. KalesaMine. I am your Vanath. It's time to take the world by storm. Let's go. A proud, rather smug smile broke on Kalesa's face as she threw a defiant glare at the Weyrleader. He couldn't stop her and Vanath; no one could. "There's not a moment to be lost, Vanath. Let's get you fed," she told Hers in a rare display.
If it was even possible, Kalesa stood a little taller as she and Vanath walked to the food. She could tell, even within the span of a few minutes, that they were going to be unstoppable.
