Description: The first thing you notice about Kalesa is her height. She's tall, standing about 5'10", and even if she was otherwise plain, she would be unmistakable in a crowd. It's both a blessing and a curse; when she argues with the men, she's that much closer to their height and therefore that much more intimidating. But she is also easy to find, and therefore easy to complain to. If Kalesa had one wish to change her appearance, it would be to shrink a few inches - she's self-conscious about it. Her frame, while long, is not as slim as some. She has a more average build with the constant exercise she does; were she to be a lazy person, she'd likely be overweight. As it is, she has dense muscle with a layer of fat on top.
Kalesa also sports mid-back length blonde hair. If she were to pull the slight wave out of it, it would be a good inch and a half longer, but as it happens she's quite fond of her hair the way it is. Her light hair matches her eyes; they're blue, but not the shade of stunning blue some women seem so proud of. It's more of a gray-blue that sparkles only in exactly the right light. Her nose, while somewhat broader than average, is nothing to really gawk at, nor is her mouth.
Description: adventurous - Kalesa has never been one to hesitate in endeavors. She's either in it or she's not, and usually she is. She doesn't do things, especially exciting ones, halfway, and it's gotten her in trouble more than once. She'll try anything once, maybe twice, including crazy risks.
calm - While dragon riding and runner racing are top on Kalesa's list of things to do, she doesn't lose her mind over them. While not the proverbial rock, Kalesa is a stable influence in the sense that she's predictable and steady, especially when she needs to be.
out of touch with herself - Kalesa has never been good about recognizing when she's nervous or angry. She doesn't express herself well because of this, and is quiet around people she doesn't know. It's not abnormal for her to find herself with her fists clenched and teeth bared with no idea how she got there.
self-serving - She has a different philosophy on life than most people; her goal in life is to make herself happy, and if that means lying to others, she's fine with that. She doesn't go out of her way to help people, and she hates to compromise. In Kalesa's mind, it's her way or find someone else to help you. She wants excellence, all the time, and if you're not helping, Kalesa won't hesitate to get you away from her by whatever means necessary.
enjoys company - Although Kalesa has the personality type that drives people away, she does like company. She works best when she can order people around. She hates empty rooms because of the quiet, and much prefers to listen to a conversation than to nothing, even if she's not partaking. A strange preference, sure, but Kalesa deals.
logical - Maybe the reason Kalesa still has friends is because her plans usually work, as long as no one steps out of line. She thinks things through, and though she'll still do something even if it's dangerous, she knows the risks and the consequences. She loves a good riddle, but finds art unappealing because of its lack of logic.
goal-oriented - No matter what it is, if Kalesa sets her mind on it, she'll do it or die trying. In her mind, she is nearly always right and will go to practically any extent to prove it. She sees herself as worthy of anything she wants, and she wants recognition for her ambition.
self-image issues - It seems out of character, but Kalesa has been hiding some body issues all her life. They've come to a head recently, and focus mostly on her weight and height. Being taller than the general population makes one self-concious, and when an out-of-the-ordinary hair and eye color are added, Kalesa sometimes just wants to be short and plain.
Written History: Kalesa is the second child of Ikals and Resaryn, both workers in the Lower Caverns. Her early life, as such, was fairly uneventful. She was never a troublemaker or a child of any real consequence, unlike her older and younger brothers. Both were overachievers and received commendations by the Harpers who taught them, in addition to being strong and good with their hands. The same could not be said for Kalesa, who, with her flighty personality, could hardly be the star student or apprentice her brothers were.
Nonetheless, she was moderately successful as a student and slightly better at her chosen craft, Beastcraft. At thirteen years of age, Kalesa endured a double blow to her pride. First, her older brother Impressed a brown and she lost her best friend and any hope of being better than him in her parents' eyes. Second, she fell off a dead broke runner and broke her arm, which practically solidified her reputation as clumsy and good for practically nothing.
Both events caused extreme stress for a few months, until Kalesa found a solution: she would prove herself by being the best beastcraft apprentice in the Weyr - no, on all of Pern. Once she put her mind to it, Kalesa was actually pretty good. Once her teachers stopped pressuring her to go into runner training and she switched over to canines, Kalesa did eventually become one of the best in her class.
At sixteen, a blue from the Weyr poked his head in Kalesa's face and informed her politely that she should Stand at the next Hatching. As it happened, there was a clutch on the Sands, but due to an unfortunate series of events (illness, followed by her prize dog whelping within an hour of the Hatching), she didn't make it to the Sands in time for anything.
Kalesa wasn't too disappointed; she still had her craft and even if she couldn't Impress like her older brother (and later her younger brother), she would dedicate herself and reach the top of her craft. But as long as she was young enough and in good enough health, she figured that she'd attend the Hatchings as they happened.
The problem with her plan was very obvious to those who weren't Kalesa: women didn't get very far in Beastcraft. Especially feminine redheads who weren't the daughter of a mastercrafter. This issue slowly but surely became apparent when Kalesa witnessed her less able male peers walk the tables and she was left in apprentice lessons.
When she was seventeen and still a senior apprentice, Kalesa decided she had a choice. She could have a stern talk with the master in charge of her class and graduate to Journeywomanhood and be mildly successful but disliked throughout her life, or she could do something else. Ambitious young woman that she was, Kalesa decided to do something else.
She liberated her favorite puppy from the kennels, gifted it to her parents, and quit apprenticehood soon after. Adventure was what she wanted, and she found it on the wings of dragons. Now, there was still the problem of beating out her brothers in some way, and that way wouldn't be Impressing a green. Kalesa wanted the gold, and she was sorely disappointed when the next clutch laid did not contain the shining shell she longed for.
Now without a steady source of income or entertainment in between clutches (impulsiveness doesn't always pay off), Kalesa started to get into a little trouble for the first time in her life. She had never had a boyfriend before, and now with all this free time, she was suddenly catapulted to the top of the social ladder. She tried to make it look like a mistake that she flirted with all the right boys. She was someone to be jealous of, and yet, she was so nice that usually you couldn't be jealous of her.
Usually. Kalesa hid under a guise of false niceties her entire eighteenth year, trying (and usually succeeding) to be That Girl. But then the rumors started circulating; she was conniving, she was a whore, she only cared about herself. Really, everything they said was true, but Kalesa didn't see it that way. She retaliated with low blows and harsh words, and the reputation she had worked so hard to build up came crashing down around her ears.
Still, a reputation like hers didn't entirely disappear. She was still pretty, and she was still outgoing enough to win herself a space on the social totem pole. Now, she's hardly mistaken for a nice girl, and she doesn't have many true friends, but no one would dare insult her to her face.
It's tough, being one of the older candidates. Kalesa has been left standing more than once, and she doesn't like it one bit. This second engineered clutch will have Hers, she hopes.

Preferred Colors:
- She'd like a gold, and I can't say I'd be unhappy with that.
- Any high-ranked dragon, male or female, would also be high on her list
- A small female would be fun to play, too
Colors You would Prefer Not to Get:
- Small male
Why? Kalesa's ambition would probably get her far in the way of a leadership position, and she knows how to handle herself, especially when she has the authority to order other people around. From her perspective, the obvious option is a gold. As for me, I'd be happy with anything but a small male - I don't feel like her personality meshes well with them.
How Flexible Are you? Very.
Mauleble and to what degree? Moderate. She can have scars, but no lifelong disability.
